Far South Columbus Area Commissioners

HOW TO BECOME A COMMISSIONER

The Far South Columbus Area Commission will hold elections this year for Commissioners in October/November. Follow these steps to be considered for Area Commissioner:

  1. Read the “Responsibilities of a Commissioner and Download and complete a Declaration of Candidacy form. Forms are also available at the following locations:
    • Marion-Franklin Community Center, 2801 Lockbourne Road
    • Scioto Southland Community Center, 3901 Parsons Avenue
    • Columbus Metropolitan Library, 2740 Lockbourne Road
    • Columbus Metropolitan Library, 3540 S. High Street.
  2. Collect at least 25 signatures from residents and/or property owners in the Far South Columbus Commission area on the nominating petition
  3. Submit the Declaration of Candidacy and nominating petition to the Commission no later than 12 noon on Monday, October 7, 2024 to the Marion-Franklin Community Center, 2801 Lockbourne Road, the Scioto Southland Community Center, 3901 Parsons Avenue, the Columbus Metropolitan Library, 2740 Lockbourne Road, or the South High Library at 3540 S. High Street. Submissions can also be emailed to: thefscac@gmail.com.
  4. You will be notified by the Election Committee of confirmation on your candidacy for the 2024 ballot.

All ballots will be counted and certified, and the recorded results announced publicly.

HOW TO FILL A VACANT COMMISSION SEAT

A vacant seat that is open after September voting will follow these rules:

  1. The vacant seat will be by appointment with recommendation of the Commissioners.
  2. Appointments shall be made for no less than one (1) year and no more than three (3) years.
  3. Each year will begin January 1st and end December 31st
  4. If a seat has only 12 months left to serve, the appointment must be made by the first Thursday of December, otherwise the seat will remain unfilled until the next election.
  5. A candidate must submit a Bio with photo to the Recording Secretary three (3) days prior to the meeting to distribute to all Commissioners.
  6. Questions may be asked of the candidate by the Commissioners in a regular scheduled Commission Meeting.
  7. A motion to accept the candidate may be made, second and roll call vote.

QUALIFICATIONS

In order to be considered for any vacant at-large seat on the Commission, you must:

  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Reside in the commission area

Business and Clergy appointed seats must work in the commission area.
